MY POSTPARTUM STORY

As a mom of two, I’ve been through this myself and I know how chaotic and confusing the first few weeks (and months!) can be after your baby arrives.

Speaking for myself, I found that the hardest time was a few weeks after my first child was born. At that point, I found the excitement of having a new baby had simmered down and family and friends had exited the scene. I was left by myself in a small NYC apartment with a baby that didn’t stop crying! I took her for walks, rocked her, breastfeed her continually and nothing seemed to help. My eating schedule was all over the place due to a lack of sleep. I felt ravenously hungry all day and then would stress eat while my daughter was napping. Forget about any self care measures - I was in full survival mode 24 hrs a day!

As a dietitian, I knew what the recommendations were for nutrition during the postpartum period - however, finding the time to prepare any healthy meals was near to impossible. Through my own experience I learned how to make quick bites that were satisfying and healthy. I made sure to drink continually throughout the day and try and sleep when my daughter slept.
